Provision of Energy
As we move to a future powered by electricity the production and provision of power is changing quicker than ever. In the coming decade and beyond, new build Industrial and commercial space, residential developments and our transport infrastructure will all make the move away from the use of fossil fuels transforming our lives and the world around us.
GMR are building relationships with providers of Green technology and sourcing the next generation of innovators to help build this Vision. We are looking at different ways to make sure we can meet future demand as we make the transition from old to new.
Waste to Energy
As much as we try to re-use an amount of the household and commercial waste we produce, inevitably there is a proportion of this waste which may not be recycled. Waste to energy looks to convert this excess waste into electricity and/or heat – an ecologically sound and cost-effective way of energy recovery.
A waste to energy facility converts municipal and industrial solid waste into electricity and/or heat for industrial processing and for district heating systems – an ecologically sound, cost-effective means of energy recovery. Waste is incinerated at high temperatures creating steam which in turn drives a turbine that creates electricity, this is an efficient way to recover valuable resources
And it is fully complementary to recycling.
It is possible to re-use up to 90 % of the metals contained in the bottom ash at the end of the process and the remaining material can be reused in ground works.

As we increase the demand for power in the coming years this will in turn bring a new challenge to the National Grid. The key to ensuring stability in demand is flexibility.
UK businesses will be able and encouraged to implement onsite generation and battery/energy storage, to help balance the demand on the network. Commercial battery storage solutions will enable companies, local authorities and developers to shift demand from high to low cost periods to maximise their own efficiency and possibly add new revenue streams.
